"Ex Libris" offers visitors a glimpse of the personal library of Jose Garcia Villa, National Artist for Literature. On display are special editions of Villa's books, a sampling of his Filipiniana collection, holographs, including a poem from e. e. cummings, never-before-published photographs of Villa, and his drawings.
Until his death in 1997, Villa crammed books and art into his apartment in Greenwich Village. John Cowen, former trustee of the Villa Literary Estate, donated much of his effects to Houghton Library, Harvard University, in 2008. Last year, he donated a significant chunk of the remainder of Villa's library to the university. "Ex Libris" displays a fraction of that materials included in the donation.
"Ex Libris" runs from 7 February 2013 to 30 May 2013 at the Pardo de Tavera Room, second floor, Rizal Library Special Collections Building. Exhibition hours are from 8 AM to 5 PM every Monday to Friday, and from 8 AM to 12 noon every Saturday.
The exhibition is mounted in cooperation with the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of the School of Humanities, Ateneo de Manila University.
