Del Pilar gave up his chair for Rizal.

Why can’t you give up your chair for others?

In 1891, a vote was called to elect the leader of La Solidaridad to unify the organization's goals. The vote ended in a stalemate after two rounds, with Marcelo del Pilar and Jose Rizal receiving the same number of votes. On the third round, del Pilar encouraged his supporters to vote for Rizal instead, to keep their organization together.

The italicized line is adapted from the 2015 film Heneral Luna, where the eponymous General Antonio Luna criticizes some of his fellow leaders in Emilio Aguinaldo’s revolutionary government, who wanted to cooperate with the American invaders to protect their business interests.

We are extending the library hours of the New Building and Matteo Ricci until 9:30 PM from December 4 to 11, 2015*.

*Except Saturdays and Sundays

During this period, the Rizal Library will be OPEN only for Loyola Schools students.

Ateneo alumni and other researchers are advised to visit from Dec 14 to 19, and Jan 7, 2016 onward.

Angela Manalang-Gloria (1907-1995), hailed by feminist critics as “the matriarch of Filipino poets writing in English,” wrote Poems (1940)—the first and only pre-war anthology of poetry in English by a Filipino woman.
