Filipiniana Section

 

This section is located on the 2nd floor of the Special Collections Building (Old Library). It houses books written by Filipino authors or by foreign authors about the Philippines, local periodicals included in the CIPPA (link is external), religious files, annual reports, maps, and vertical files on Philippine issues. It also contains around 3,000 theses and dissertations of former Ateneo students.

This section has more than 32,000 in the humanities, social sciences, and general sciences. Some notable works include the 1902 and 1907 editions of Urbana at Feliza by Fr. Modesto de Castro; Juan de la Concepcion’s Historia de Filipinas, a 14-volume work published in 1788; and Flora de Filipinas, a compilation of beautifully illustrated Philippine plants by Fr. Manuel Blanco, published in 1877.

Moreover, it has 1,200 local periodicals, including the rare, original copies of Aliwan, Liwayway, and Philippines Free Press magazines.
 

Offered Services:

 

  • Lends materials limited to viewing inside the room
  • Assists in research on Filipino references
  • There are also computer terminals for use of the OPAC or CIPPA as well as a photocopying corner.
