“LAZIR YRARBIL”

You probably did a double take in disbelief when you saw the Rizal Library’s name spelled backwards. And yes, that was not photoshopped. It was real, and we hope it brought you a bit of joy.

This was our way of challenging and inviting you all to dive into the world of Alinam, a fantasy book series set in an alternate version of Manila, written by Mickey Ingles (BS CTM 2006). Book 1 and Book 2 were released in 2020 and 2023, respectively. (Copies are available for purchase on Shopee and Lazada.)

Participants had to say the phrase “Lazir Yrarbil” at the Circulation Desk to start a game that brought them to different parts of the Rizal Library and the campus. They learned more about Alinam lore, and their puzzle-solving skills were challenged under time pressure. Special thanks to Breakout Philippines and Summit Books for sponsoring this event!

There were 174 teams, with a total of 626 students as members, who scoured the campus over a period of five days for hidden clues, items, and different puzzles. See the list below for the top 30 teams!

To claim their prizes, a representative from each winning team must send an email with the subject line “LAZIR YRARBIL - [TEAM NAME]” that enumerates the names of all members, to rizal.library.ls@ateneo.edu, cc to all team members, on or before 29 February 2024, 5pm. We will then send instructions on when and how prizes may be claimed.
