Man works with a desk.
Remove that desk and you
reduce him into inaction.
Someone could be using that desk where you left your bag.
The italicized line is adapted from Jose Rizal’s “Man works for an object. Remove that object and you reduce him into inaction.” (“Sobre la Indolencia de los Filipinos," La Solidaridad, 1890). The illustration is based on an 1890 photograph of Jose Rizal, Marcelo del Pilar, and Mariano Ponce. They were among the most prominent of ilustrados, the Filipino educated class during the Spanish occupation.
